Growing Minds Chess Academy Presents: Brooklyn Heights Chess Camp!

Sharpen your chess skills and learn from great chess teachers from New York City. This is a special series in August to refine those chess skills and go into the school year STRONG in a fun and engaging way

Time: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM EST

We are excited to announce our August Chess Camp series in Brooklyn Heights. Our camp will run from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM IN PERSON at the Smith Street Arts & Lettres School. This is located at 80 Clinton Street Brooklyn, NY. Sharpen your chess skills and prepare for the upcoming school year. Often skills are lost during the summer and this is the PERFECT opportunity to regain those skills and help start the school year strong! 

This chess camp is for students of all levels and abilities. There will be various topics covered such as tactical motifs, dangerous sacrifices, deadly checkmates and fascinating endgame studies. There will be a small ratio of students : teacher to optimize the learning experience. Avenues: The World School Head Coach Harold Scott will be one of the instructors. We will have guest lectures from top Chess Coaches including National Master Abby Marshall

Tentative Schedule:

9:00 AM - 9:30: Group gathering and camp warm up. The instructor may pick a game or tactic to review with the students

9:30 - 10:15: Lesson of the day with an assigned coach. If numbers permit, classes will be broken down by ability

10:15 - 10:45: Break for snack

10:45 - 11:15: Puzzle Rush! Camp will be broken into teams and students will solve puzzles together as a team

11:15 - 12:00 Tournament activity of the day. This includes a Simultaneous exhibition, a g/10 tournament,  a bughouse tournament etc. 

12:00 - 1:00 PM:  Pizza Lunch in Pierrepont Playground (Weather permitting). A short walk from camp, Pierrepont playground is a beautiful park with benches, a playground and a beautiful view of the NYC Skyline.

1:00 PM - 1:30: Group gathering, practice games are played

1:30 - 2:15: Lesson with an assigned coach

2:15 - 2:45: Break for snack

2:45 - 3:15: Tactics tactics tactics. Students will play a game where they work together in groups to solve tactics

3:15 - 4:00: Tournament activity

At the end of the week we will have a USCF rated tournament where a Camp Champion will be crowned!
